 Everyone My name is Mia and I’m the daughter of Gary Lulham who has recently passed away due to a very rare cancer that caused a tumour in both his nose and brain. As a family, we would like to continue his legacy by setting up ‘The Falcon Foundation’ that raises money to help fund the research and treatment of ALL CANCERS!! The foundation will also aim to support families and young people when coping with a parent or loved one in end of life care. Having experienced the work of palliative care teams first hand, I can vouch for how vital these services are, especially for young people dealing with anticipatory grief which can be especially hard to navigate. Without the amazing staff at Tunbridge Wells hospital and their brilliant palliative care team, I don’t know how our family would have gotten through this difficult time. The work they do is essential in providing a dignified and symptom controlled environment that makes it easier for the patient and family to spend their remaining time together. They also work closely with charities such as Winston's Wish which have some great resources and support for young people coping with the loss of a parent. I would also like to thank Kings College Hospital for the amazing treatment they gave my dad while he was going through some very invasive brain surgeries. Their expertise and commitment to my dads case was second to none. ‘The Falcon Foundation’ is named after Gary’s love of the late arctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott. Also, he always remarked that if he ever had a middle name that’s what he’d want it to be, so there you are dad you’ve got your wish! My dad was the most honourable, charitable, and hilarious man I have ever met and I know this foundation will help his legacy continue through his many family and friends. He was put on this earth to make the world a funnier place and certainly achieved that! The Falcon Foundation will embody Gary’s kind hearted and loving spirit that will allow his memory and the values he stood for to continue. Be prepared for many fundraisers and events to be taking place in the future! Anyone who knew my Dad knows he didn’t do things by halves…. a quality which he installed into his children from day one!  And like he always said, “Go big or go Home!”

The Charities will be….  Cancer Research Uk- a charity well known for its vital research towards the treatment and curing of all cancers in both adults and children.  Hospice in the Weald- A charity that supports patients and families with palliative and end of life care both physically and holistically.  Winston’s Wish- A charity that supports families, children and young people who are grieving the loss of a parent or loved one and gives support in navigating grief in school, home and workplace environments  All three of these charities are of immense importance and rely heavily (if not entirely) on public donations in order to keep their vital services running. We thought these were some great charity’s which could benefit from the amazing fundraising you have all made possible!
